Bollywood has given us many characters that over the years have become immortal- from quintessential lovers Raj and Prem to iconic villains like Gabbar and Shaakal. But at the same time it has also given us some of the most typecast characters and actors of all time- the understanding mum and dad, that one supporting brother and of course the police officer who would always reach the scene of crime after the crime has been committed.

Here’s a look at some of the most typecast actors that Bollywood has ever produced:

#1. Alok Nath as Babuji

Alok nath

You would be lying if at some point in your life (most likely infancy), you did not want your father to be exactly like AlokNath. He started his career in 1980 with a TV serial- Rishte Naate, playing the character of guessed it, BABUJI. With more than 14o films to his credit, no one messes with Alok Nath when it comes to playing Babuji. Include Datsun GO commercial.

 #2. Reema Lagoo as Maa

One of Bollywood’s most loved actors and the epitome of motherhood. Reema Lagoo was noticed for her roles in early films like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Maine Pyaar Kiya, and rose to popularity with serials- Shriman Shrimati and Tu Tu Main Main. From Shah Rukh and Kajol to Salman and Govinda, she has probably played mother to most superstars in Bollywood.

#3. Mohnish Bahl as Bade Bhaiyya

Son of veteran actor Nutan and cousin of actors Kajol and Rani Mukherjee, Mohnish Bahl has taken brotherhood quite seriously. A regular face in Sooraj Barjatiya’s films and considered to be close friends with Bhaijaan Salman Khan.

No prizes for guessing the first three. Now coming to some less popular characters

 #4. Jagadish Raj as Inspector

Jagdish raj

Remember him? Jagdish Raj holds a Guinness World Record for being the most type-cast actor. He played a police inspector in 144 films and even a reference police man in the form of a photograph in Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om.

#5. Mac Mohan – The villain’s sidekick

Mac mohan

Pooooore Pachhas Hazaar.. no more, no less.

Mac Mohan, best known for his role in Sholay as Sambha. Although he has acted in over 200 movies, he is always remembered as a villain’s side-kick from that Amitabh Bachchan flick.

#6. Ranjeet- The Rapist

Papa Ranjeet

Be it Reshma Aur Shera (1972) or Houseful 2 (2012), Papa Ranjeet never disappoints… Aaaiiyeeh!!

Who can believe that this bad man of Bollywood who would make women flea at his sight, is a non-smoker and teetotaller in real life.

#7. Riteish Deshmukh- That wishy-washy supporting actor in every rom-com

That’s probably why Genelia married him.

2 tips for Riteish:

1) Do more of Ek Villains!

2) Keep distance from Sajid Khan!

#8. Om Puri- The wise, old man

om puri

From West Is West to Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Om Puri has been the sole reason that the film’s protagonist has been able to find some sort of direction in life. Oh, what would we do without him?
